The guy said he had to completely disassemble it to import it.

...doesn’t that still make it illegal?

imported as parts, re-assembled and titled as a Pontiac probably

and...that’s legal?

Looks like a standard G8 to me.

apparently so. RHD Utes has been doing this for years, and the process is perfectly legal.

From what I remember about people doing this, a G8 donor car has to be used (cut up) so that VIN-ed parts (like the firewall) can make it “legal”.
Notice its LHD which a “real” ute wouldn’t be.
edit:
found the company I remembered: http://www.lefthandutes.com/

That’s the company I was thinking of.

They only want $85,000 for the HSV, what a crack pipe bargain.

For the same money, you could get a Z06 or a 4C. Considering that this will turn just as many heads as the Alfa, and probably more than the Vette, I’d say it’s a pretty good deal.

Or a C6 Z06 and $50,000.
![]() 08/22/2015 at 10:25 |

Yeah, but a C6 Z06 doesn’t exactly turn heads anymore.

Agreed, and although I’m still frustrated by the fact that the G8 ST never came to fruition, I can’t understand paying this much for a head turner. It’s cool, and I’d love to have one, but I’d rather have more fun with more cars.

Fair enough.

I always wanted one of these. LHD Utes will turn a GTO, G8, Caprice, or SS into a Maloo if you have enough money. Or even a wagon. ;-)

nice - the ultimate burnout machine - all the power, no weight over the rear axle.

I'd assume so. is a kit car not legal in the US?
